Side two, track one of The Modern Lovers, the album Beserkley built in 1976 from the original band’s demos: cut for Warner Brothers in Los Angeles in April 1972, with John Cale producing, two years before the line-up split. Jonathan Richman, Jerry Harrison, Ernie Brooks and David Robinson on two chords and pure nerve. Richman himself counts the later Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers as his real debut. Greuze painted the cracked jug two centuries earlier.
