Dave Gahan recorded a cover of the Metallica song Nothing Else Matters in New York with the assistance of Adrian Hierholzer. The track featured synths played and recorded by Kurt Uenala from Iceland and Peter Hayes from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club also recorded some guitars. Dave said about it “it’s a very intimate and personal song; it’s not the usual sing along ‘let’s rock type of song’.”
I wanted to pull that out of it, I wanted to go down to a very atmospheric approach with it, it was in the middle of Covid that I was asked to do this, I haven’t been doing anything, I didn’t want to do anything and I started listening to this song again, or the record actually, I was lucky to get the chance to do it. I wanted to turn it on its head, with a cinematic backdrop. I was surprised when James picked me for singing this song, I only met him once at an Indian restaurant in London, but I was very happy to do it”.
