A series of posts claim that a fad is taking off in Japan called the “phone number revealing festival” in which people add their personal information to their public Twitter accounts. The idea is to open up to people and demonstrate trust, which encourages social interaction.

Sadly, this will only work in Japan. It’s a great idea, though. Last year, I did something similar. I called people up who tweeted me: “Hi, you’ve tweeted me?”. They were quite suprised but it did create some interesting conversations that would not have happened as replys, hashtags and retweets.
